I think philosophy can be taught to students of any age, but the way it is taught has to be different for different age groups. I have taught philosophy and critical thinking to 4th graders and they were able to benefit from certain exercises. When I was in 8th grade I remember being interested in philosophical topics and discussion. What I lacked was the critical thinking skills.
We had them discuss how to categorize different objects and debate whether something like a cloud is “real”. This is a great site about philosophy education for kids:
